Writing stories for the unknown.

Kolding City Archive uncovered a collection of more than 2100 well preserved portraits and negatives from the nineteenth century.

Almost 700 of the models have been identified using birth records etc. The rest are still unknown.

Frankenstories is a collection of unique auto-written stories for the the unidentified models. Each story has a long version (about 60.000 words) and a shortened version.

The algorithm samples 70 different books from around the same era (sourced from Project Gutenberg). The color and position of the pixels in the image decides which words are included in the story. This results in peculiar texts with a randomized feel to them.

The images have been edited to fit the text, giving them the same sampled feel as the stories.
